UPDATE! Robinson Island has been converted to bike paradise!Parks Canada an update on the status of work at Robinsons Island, Prince Edward Island National Park: It has been a busy winter on Robinsons Island: Parks Canada staff members cut a trail through the woods delineating the location of the new multi-use trail on Robinsons Island. The new multi-use trail is designed to accommodate a variety of users and will include beach access points in select locations as well as opportunities to discover the natural and cultural features in the area. Spurs equipped with technical trail features for mountain-biking will diverge from the main path. Parks Canada will be working with Cycling PEI to determine where these spurs will branch off and which features will be most appropriate given the geographic characteristics of the Island and our target market: young families. The new multi-use trail on Robinsons Island will enhance the overall trail network in PEI National Park and will provide a unique and exciting opportunity for Islanders and visitors to try mountain-biking by choosing their own level of engagement. We are proceeding with converting the 700-meter section of road on Robinsons Island as part of the new trail system. To facilitate work, this portion of the road is now closed to vehicular traffic. Asphalt has been removed and a new parking area will be created before the trail opens early in the summer of 2014.
